SOMERS DUATHLON
For the second year running, Somers will host the third
race in the Brooks 2007 Victorian Duathlon series
Hosted by the Mornington Peninsula Triathlon Club, the
race is scheduled to start at 9.00am on Sunday,
19th August at the R W Stone Reserve
and should finish around 10.30am
Over 200 of Victoria’s best athletes are expected to
compete in this winter version of the Triathlon, one of
the most watched events in the Commonwealth Games.
Now in its sixth season, the Brooks Victoria Duathlon Series
continues to grow and is now firmly established as the biggest
duathlon
series in Australia.
The Duathlon race starts with a demanding 5km run,
followed by a tough 20km bike ride and finishing
with a punishing 3km run
Greg Jones, President of the MorningtonPeninsula club,
says Brooks has been the title sponsor each season.
“And their support has been crucial in the development
of the series’
“Other sponsors are Endura, Ryders Eyewear, Gravity Zero,
Triathlon and Multi Sport Magazine and Buff Headwear.”
One of the features of the 2006 series has been the
development of the shorter distance Duathlon Dash which
consists of a 2km run followed by a 10km bike and
concluding with a 1 km run
Greg Jones says these shorter distance races provide a
great introduction to the sport for newcomers and the
participation rates in these races grew to new levels
last year.
